FCA’s:
Please reflect on 3 or more assignments from the past semester:
What are some of the most valuable or helpful things you've learned so far? Which skills or techniques that you learned did you use in subsequent assignments?
Is there a project you would like to re-visit or improve upon?
What other photographic or digital art areas would you like to explore? (Is there a technique or skill that you would like to learn?)
Art Midterm Review Essay
During this year in Photography, we have completed many different projects, and reviewed multiple different skills. One of the first project we did was the Space and Depth assignment. This really made me pay attention to what I was focussing in on, and the effect that the aperture has on a photo. Depending what the aperture is, can guide the viewer where to look in the photo. That’s really important to keep in the back of your head when you’re taking pictures.
Soon after that, we did the Realistic, Abstract and Nonobjective project. I really enjoyed this assignment. It was fun to see how changing the colors of the photo or making little adjustments in Photoshop, can really change the whole image. With the same photo, you can go from being able to tell exactly what it is of, and then with some editing, the same photo can be hard to tell what it’s of. That’s definitely a helpful thing to know if you want the intent of the image to maybe have some mystery, or if you just want to get the viewers to be unsure.
The Paper Lantern project was for sure, one of my favorites. I thought it was fun to mix it up, and cut out the shapes we made on the computer. The shadows that they made really created some great photos, and they had so many different possibilities. If we were to re-visit any project, I would like it to be that one, because I would enjoy making another one.
In terms of trying any new areas, I think it would be fun to do some more of combining different photos. Sort of like the 12 Days of Photoshop, but just combining multiple photos together without any themes. I would like to learn more about all the tools that there are in Photoshop.
